Art every day month ~ day 30 ~ last day!

Already? November just flew by! Today I worked on the December block for Traveling Threads. I have never done anything this complicated before and I am not sure if I like it, I might have to take it apart and re-work the colours...

Art every day month ~ day 24 to 29 ~ work in progress

These last few days I have been working on the calendar quilt, finishing up November and getting ready to start December and also planning out how the quilt will be put together.

I also have been planning the back of the Christmas quilt. I have been receiving the completed blocks from the Traveling Threads virtual quilting bee. It has been so much fun to see everyone's creativity! I like every single block. I have been cutting long strips and will put them together to make up the back of the quilt.

Lastly, I have been re-working the Christmas quilt I had started last year. I wasn't happy with how it turned out..so I took some rows off and now it will become a seasonal tablecloth.

Art every day month ~ day 20 ~ blue bird of happiness

I talked about using "Drawing with Children" by Mona Brookes as my art curriculum for our homeschool this year with my 3 children on my main blog Serendipity. I learn right along with them, and this is my bird. You can read the post about it here.
I call this little bird my "blue bird of happiness". When I was growing up I used to watch this movie every Christmas (which is why I chose these blue colours) :

Art every day month ~ day 19 ~ calendar quilt (wip)

I worked on the month of November for the calendar quilt last night. The year is almost over, and so are the blocks for this quilt. Soon, I will be able to put it all together. The calendar quilt has 12 blocks, one for each month, and each block has one strip each representing each day.
November is white and light blue, representing the cold and snow (even though it hasn't been that cold here yet!).

Art every day month ~ day 18 ~ looking back

I am not sure if this is considered "cheating" but I wanted to look back at my first quilt and share it here. I made this one for my oldest daughter, about 5 years ago.
I love quilting, especially playing with the colours and figuring out how to put it all together. I remember having so much fun planning out the combination of colours on each butterfly.

Art every day month ~ day 17 ~ bugs collage

bugs
I put this collage together tonight to share a few of my favourite bug photographs I have taken over this past year. These were all taken around my house, my children and I love finding these little bits of nature close by.

Art every day month ~ day 16 ~ lunch

This is one of my favourite meals, but I haven't made it in a long time. Having found some organic quinoa at the store yesterday, I made this for my lunch today.
Mushrooms, garlic, and peppers, with garlic and olive oil + quinoa = a beautiful and yummy lunch for me!

Art every day month ~ day 10

We were doing science yesterday afternoon, in particular chromatography. I put that under the category "seeing art in everything"!!

Art every day month ~ day 9 ~ x-mas gift

A little home-made Christmas gift for my mother-in-law, to hold her paint brushes while she is travelling. I had to use whatever fabrics I already had, but she said she loved them anyway ;)

Art every day month ~ day 6, 7, 8 ~ catching up!

sunrise on Friday morning
my little gingerbread house
sunset on sunday

My mother-in-law has been visiting us these last few days, and I have been enjoying spending time with her. I missed posting the daily Art, but did enjoy taking sunset and sunrise photographs. We all worked on miniature gingerbread houses, mine wasn't the prettiest one but it will still taste good!

Art every day month ~ day 4 : october block for calendar quilt

I have been working on a scrap calendar quilt since the beginning of the year. It is called a calendar quilt because each block is a month and has strips representing each day for that month. The photo below shows the blocks from January to October, with October only having a few days on that picture. I decided early on to give each month a colour theme. Some months are more obvious than others, for example the February one is pink and red for Valentine's Day, March is green for St Patrick's Day...and I did a beach and ocean theme for July.

I am now finished the month of October block:

I haven't decided exactly how I will place all 12 blocks once I am finished...

Art every day month ~ day 3 : an octopus for Andre

My son Andre loves all marine life, but especially sharks and octupuses. I drew this one for him. I wasn't too sure about the colour of the octopus, but he told me he liked it anyway.

Art every day month ~ day 2 : a little puffer fish

This little guy was fun to draw and colour (with my kids' colouring pencils), and he didn't even take a long time. I drew while Adrienne was reading aloud her history lesson to me... She didn't mind at all and I was able to squeeze in a little art for me during our busy day!

Art every day month ~ day 1 : altered halloween photo

playing around with picnik

original

altered with picnik

I love taking pictures and now I am falling in love with altering them.

I usually don't touch my photos once I have taken them. The only thing would be to crop them or fix the lighting. I only have a very simple (and old) photo program on my computer, so I am limited and I just like the natural look anyway. Just the way I see it through the camera.

But after seeing a few photos from this artistic woman, I was inspired and just knew I had to at least give it a try. I already had used picnik, but only for making the headers on my blog Serendipity. This time, I tried a couple of photos and just had fun with it!
You can see the first set above, the before and after..

And here is another set:

This last one with Celeste in the field makes me smile every time I see it, because when I took the photo, this is how I saw that wild grass. The yellow grabbed my eye, along with the way Celeste was standing. I was actually disapointed when I saw the "real" version in my camera, that the yellow hadn't been captured the way I saw it. Picnik seemed to fix that :)
