52 fridays -- week 18

There was a theme this week for our 52 fridays of self portrait group: bathroom or if we already did a picture in our bathroom, a public bathroom.
So there I am, in the library's bathroom.

52 books :: book 17 :: Grave Sight

Grave Sight is another series written by Charlaine Harris (author of Sookie Stackhouse series). This series is about Harper Connelly, a young woman who was striked by lightning and can now find dead people. Her job is to help people locate dead bodies and "see" the cause of death. She is hired by different people all over the country and travels with her brother.
Grave Sight is the first book in the series. I have been waiting for book #3 in the Sookie series from the library, and decided to try something else by Charlaine Harris. I enjoyed this book, not as much as the Sookie series, but I will be reading the next title as soon as it's available from the library.

52 fridays -- week 17

Last week Laura (from the 52 fridays self portrait group) posted a pic for self portrait friday of herself with her fabric stash.  I liked the idea, decided to copy it for this week.. I can't say I like this picture, but here it is! Me and my little stash.. I like to sort them by colours too, so each box is a different colour. greens, blues, yellows, pinks, then 1 box has black and white together.

52 books :: book 16 :: A Touch of Dead

"A Touch of Dead" by Charlaine Harris is a collection of short stories involving Sookie Stackhouse. Sookie Stackhouse is the main character of the Sookie Stackhouse Novels, which inspired the HBO True Blood TV series.
I had watched the first seasons of the TV series a few months ago and started reading the books shortly after. I am only on the third book in the series, having to wait my turn patiently at the library...
I was really surprised to be able to check out this particular book right away. "A Touch of Dead" is wonderful, my only complaint would be that it wasn't long enough! It has five short stories, all fitting in different time periods in the regular novels.

taking the time to smell the flowers

52 books :: book 15 :: May Bird and the Ever After

I finished this book on Sunday. May Bird and the Ever After is written by Jodi Lynn Anderson. The story, a young girl that gets taken to the Ever After (the world of the dead), is interesting, with lots of great characters, ghosts, spirits, bogeyman, etc...but I wont be continuing on with the series at this point. This was a book suggested by one of the librarians for my daughter. I decided to try it out since she was still in the middle of The Eternity Code (Artemis Fowl).

52 books :: book 15 :: May Bird and the Ever After

 I am not quite finished this book, about 3/4 into it. It doesn't reflect how I like the book, just that I have been busy! We have been enjoying our time outdoors. This past week I haven't been able to find little pockets of free time for myself. I am hoping to finish it in the next couple of days and start Book Two.

52 books :: book 14 :: Trouble in High Heels

Last week, I had mentioned that I was trying out a different genre to read. I had asked our librarian to choose a book from the Romance section. She picked out "Trouble in High Heels" written by Leanne Banks, a "contemporary romance".
I can't say that I liked the book. I did finish it quickly, mostly because I wanted to see if it was going to get any better. I just don't think that harlequin romance type of book is for me. I don't mind romance in the books that I read, after all, I did enjoy the Twilight series and they're just a big romantic story, but at least there are the vampires and the werewolves!

Gardening?

We are ready to start gardening! We will be planting some seeds to start indoors, and I have already some plans for our vegetable patch in the backyard.
I would love to find a few gardening blogs (or websites) or books that would be helpful to a beginning gardening like me...would you have any suggestions?
We are planning on being organic in our gardening, and prefer to grow vegetables, fruits and flowers that can be cut and enjoyed in a bouquet. Fancy landscaping that doesn't produce anything is not what we are after!
Please leave a comment with any links that might be helpful to us. Thank you!

a little spring egg...just one

These eggs are so cute, I just had to give it a try. I will stop at one for this time. They are pretty simple to make, and I will want to make more. Maybe for next year!

and one more

52 fridays -- week 14

first thing in the morning sun with my boy

catching up on sewing projects..

I finished a couple of projects today.
I finished the binding with the machine, something I usually don't do. I have always done it by hand, but this time I thought I would finish it this way. I had planned on adding a couple of quilting lines along the binding and I am happy with how it turned out.
This table runner is completely reversible too!
Most fabrics were left over from the wallhanging I made a couple of years ago (you can see it in the last two photos).

I also made another tidy-tote, for a special request...one more to come!
